Material: what you use, not what you print
Roll media is charged on the length of roll the job uses, edge to edge, so the strip left beside a narrow banner is paid for. The calculator tries each piece both ways across the roll and keeps the layout that uses the least roll, with a half-inch gutter between pieces.
Rigid sheets are charged by the whole sheet. Pieces are nested on a 4 × 8 sheet in whichever orientation fits more, and the job pays for every sheet it starts.
Print, finishing and markup
Ink is charged on the printed area, per side. Material and ink are multiplied by your markup. Finishing (hems, grommets, stakes, mounting) is a flat amount per piece.
Labour and the minimum
Design and production hours are charged at your shop rate. If the total comes in under your minimum charge, the minimum applies.
Where a calculator stops
Real shops price more than this: a complexity charge, install by the hour, quantity breaks, different rules for roll and rigid, a supplier price list that changes every quarter. The quoter keeps your catalogue, saves the quote, sends a branded PDF, and changes when you tell it how your shop prices.
